PS who would be interested in this upgrade and has an auto tranny?

I REALLY DOUBT that you could gain that much on the AT.

The AT does not even HAVE the 3rd set of intake runners that the MT has.
The AT makes peak power around 7,000rpm as a result.

On top of that the auto tranny sucks up some of the power.

Lastly, there is a damned fine reason they capped the AT power.
From what I have heard that tranny will break if you fed it much more power.

REALLY. You do NOT want to do this!

If you want a faster RX-8 sell the AT and get an 6MT.

    That is the right way.
Without ANY modifications you will get an extra 30hp right off the bat.

  • Hier CAnzoomers Antwort :]

With regards to your message at 07:09 AM 12/25/03, Where you stated:

    Hallo Canzoomer,

I am connected in the German forum http://www.rx8-fan.de

Hi! I appreciate that you wrote to me!

I would like to test your modification in a German car and report to you and the Forum as there is Interrest.

Thank you, we do not yet have a German tester.

People wonder if your device will work here to and if it can be uninstalled quickly in case of warranty issues.

It will work, just not certain how much gain will happen.
It installs or is removed in 15 minutes or less.

I get my car it in Feb. Then I drive it in and could install your device.

If I could get a 1.Stage kit in Feb. I would be happy.

    Perfect.

    A question:

In Germany people report about extreme differences in mileage due to similar way of driving.

We see that here too. I think it is mainly a matter of driving style. I CAN get average mileage if I drive VERY gently, low rpm, little throttle, no high speeds.
But if I play I get lousy mileage.
For example in 2 recent tanks of fuel:
For the first tank I drove 3/4 of it on the highway at 110kmh, and 1/4 in city always shifting before 3,500, and did not let it sit at idle long. I tried to get good mileage. Result: 12.97l/100km

The next tankful I played lots, did some 1/4 mile runs with my GTech Pro, and idled lots.
I got my worst tank ever at 20.44 l/100km!

That is the two biggest extremes for me. I usually get around 13.6 to 16.4 depending on driving style, highway use, etc.
Normally I drive on the highway at around 140kmh.

I guess the standard setting of the ECU differ a lot from car to car, so I wonder if your device has an effect on this, is it possible to adjust the device to each car individual, or does this all matter little for an optimal result?

Little difference. A friend here (StealthTL on the RX-8 forum) gets around 11.5 to 12.5 all the time.
I have driven with him and he runs at low rpm, never goes above 5500, little throttle. I traded cars with him for a day and got my usual mileage in his car.

One thing that makes our mileage a bit worse here in Alberta is that we are around 1,000m altitude.
At sea level people seem to do better.

Anyway, I attach our price list and order form.

To ship to Germany by DHL is around $45 US, insured.
If you buy one and it does not work out for you, we will take it back and refund the price of the goods.

    Thanks for writing, Axel!

Well, yesterday we installed what appears to be the final prototype in Canzoomer's car. It now includes a switch on the side of the box to select Stage 0 (stock) or Stage 1. Access to switch by opening ECU box. Best news for us was it fits and works fine.

As for the dyno I'll have to let Canzoomer comment. I think we now know how to dyno without upsetting the ECU into limp mode.

    How to Dyno an RX-8:
    1. Find an understanding dyno operator.
    2. Drive up to the dyno but not onto it.
    3. Slide under the rear of the car and remove the bolt on each rear hub that holds the ABS sensor in.
    4. Back the car onto the dyno drums.
    5. While strapping the car in place (recommended) pull out each sensor and tape it up out of the way of moving parts.
    6. Do your dyno tests, but keep them less than 15 sec. duration. Turn off the car between tests.
    7. When done, and while unstrapping the car, wipe off each sensor and reinsert.
    8. Pull off dyno and reinstall sensor bolts. I say do this "on the floor" because if you drop one of those bolts into the dyno rollers and don't have a replacement, you will have to leave your car there until you can get a bolt.

If you dyno once a year or so, this will suffice. If you are developing a race car you may want an "ABS fooler", which we hope to have available in a month. You will still be limited to about 15 sec. runs, but at least there is no messing around with sensors every time.

Hymee discovered the EPS (power steering) gets upset too - thus the 15 sec. limit. Thanks Hymee!

This car is so paranoid! Guess that's why it saved the posters life on the RX-8 Discussion area. Great job Mazda!
